Third "Hunger Games" Book Will Be Split Into Two Films

On Tuesday, Lionsgate announced that it will release two films for Mockingjay, the third book in The Hunger Games literary series.

Using the same money-milking strategy as the final Harry Potter and Twilight installments, we see. The third and fourth films, to follow the November 2013 sequel Catching Fire, will be titled The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. (How clever…)

Based on Suzanne Collins' futuristic teen novels, the blockbuster series looks likely to become an annual pre-Christmas event at the box office. Mockingjay Part 1 will open in theaters Nov. 21, 2014. While filmgoers can expect the fourth and final film on Nov. 20, 2015.

Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth are among the original cast members returning when the sequel begins filming next month. Capote Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman was recently cast as head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee.

The first Hunger Games film has taken in $678 million at the global box office since its release in March.
