Cooper, who has never won any awards for his dozen or so previous films, is receiving all kinds of accolades for his role in the comedy drama with Jennifer Lawrence, who is also up for a best actress Oscar.
Ironically, tough-talking, straight-shooting Hollywood blogger Nikke Finke is being credited with fueling the latest rumors. She reportedly made a loose comment about Cooper and “American Idol” emcee Ryan Seacrest.
She said they both needed to “redo their closets.” The comment was taken by tabloids to mean that both needed to finally come out as gay.
Idol judge Simon Cowell often insulated as much on the show, with joking comments directed at Seacrest that were laden with gay innuendo.
With the improving political climate for gays in America, some Hollywood actors have chosen to finally reveal their sexuality. Actress Jody Foster, also long subject to rumors, was the latest to do so at the Golden Globes earlier this month.
Although Cooper has romanced such Hollywood beauties as Jennifer Aniston, Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Lopez and Zoe Saldana, none have worked out. His only marriage to actress Jennifer Esposito, lasted four months.
“He’s been able to laugh them off in the past, but this latest one comes right when he’s on the verge of becoming one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and is campaigning for an Oscar,” a source told The National Enquirer.
“Bradley believes the cruel rumor could damage his leading man status,” the source reportedly said.
Finke couldn’t be reached for comment on her role in the matter. She’s fostered a reputation for being in the know about all things Hollywood. If so, she should be more careful with loose comments.
