Jennifer Lawrence is currently the “it girl” in Hollywood. Why? Well, it’s not hard to see why with her beauty and talent in pretty much every movie she’s been in. Oh yeah, and she literally just rolled into SNL practice this week fresh off a Golden Globe victory. So timing of her hosting of SNL is pretty much perfect. It’s like someone planed that? Wait, that’s how it works? Of I get it. Lawrence isn’t really known for her comedic timing, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have it. But one thing about hosting a live show, is that you learn pretty quick if the host has it.
So will Hollywood’s It Girl pull it off? Will there be topical references? Will there be some sorta Hunger Games sketch? Let’s find out.
COLD OPEN
Watching this makes me realize all of these news bits broke in just one week. It’s been a long week, geeze. While initial impressions make me think that all three of these news topics could be their own sketch. I do think considering the utter ridiculousness of Manti Te’o's story they could mine this topic for something more than just a third of a cold open and passing Weekend Update joke. I could watch Bobby Moynihan fumble around as him for a few minutes. I could also see Kate McKinnon fumble around as a confusing Jodie Foster speech for a bit longer. Are we peaking during the cold open SNL?
MONOLOGUE
Well, it’s very obvious that Jennifer is good at reading a queue cards and she definitely burned through it fast, in fact I’m not sure if she acknowledged that periods end sentences. But for a 22 year old hosting a live TV show for the first time, let’s chalk that up to nerves. At least there wasn’t a musical number and Tommy Lee Jones is still not impressed.
