A SCHOOL was transported back to the Second World War as part of an end of project treat for youngsters.

Staff and children at Catcote School Business and Enterprise College, in Hartlepool, dressed up in wartime clothes and enjoyed music and food from the 1940s as the children celebrated finishing their work.

The hall was also decked out with bunting and organisers say they were delighted with how the day went.

Charlotte Wilson, Class 3 teacher at the Catcote Road school, said: “The students have been studying about how people lived during the war and they have also been reading Goodnight Mister Tom.

“Students and staff got dressed up the Second World War-style clothes and we also had lunch and there was also games in the afternoon.

“It went really well and I was delighted with the way that everybody, both staff and children, got into the spirit of the event.”

Children from Year 7, 8 and 9 performed music and songs from the wartime era to the rest of the school, while the school cook rustled up bangers and mash and quiche for the staff and children to enjoy.

Ms Wilson said the next school project will be based on Harry Potter and they will look to hold a similar style end of-project party for that as well.
