Despicable Me 2 has topped the weekend’s box office for the second week in a row, earning $44.8 million!
According to THR, the animated sequel – starring Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Miranda Cosgrove – now has a domestic total of $229.2 million and a worldwide total of $400 million.
Coming in strong at No. 2 was Adam Sandler‘s ensemble comedy Grown Ups 2, which had a $42.5 million opening.
Taking the No. 3 spot was Guillermo del Toro‘s science fiction flick Pacific Rim, which grossed $38.3 million.
Rounding out the top five were The Heat, starring Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock, and The Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, bringing in $14 million and $11.1 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, Sundance favorite Fruitvale Station , starring Michael B. Jordan and directed by Ryan Coogler, earned an impressive $377,285 in just seven theaters.
